The best known of the second wave of electronic producers from Detroit in early 1990s, Craig took his cues from the likes of Derrick May and Jeff Mills, fusing their pioneering sounds with a more experimental, jazzy soundscape. In 1991 he founded his own label, Planet E Recordings, which has gone on to release records by some of the biggest names in techno, from Moodyman to Kevin Saunderson.
As he celebrates 20 years of Planet E, Carl took over the 6Mix to play some of his favourite releases from the last two decades, as well as playing and talking about some of the old school Detroit sounds which inspired him to make music. He also discusses the highlights of his remarkable career, where he sees techno music progressing and also takes to the decks for an hour mix of fresh electronic sounds direct from Motor City. With tracks from Grace Jones, Benga, Kraftwerk, Prince and Throbbing Gristle, its well worth a listen. Check it here
